Raold Dahl is the most famous author of childten's fiction in the world. His books have been sold very well all the time .However his books are also controversial in the West. A lot of adults focus on the "cruel", "macabre" from his books and have objections. In this paper, I focus on the question"how to make children laugh"and explore the unique style of Raold Dahl's books and his idea.First off all , this paper analyzes the book"the Witches" and point out that"the Witches" is not really macabre. I compare Dahl's macabre short stories for adults with "the Witches" for children and find out that"the Witches"is ridiculous. "The wicked" from Raold Dahl's fiction are also ridiculous . This kind of humous is quite successful and almost without exception the reviews praised the humor in the book.In fact , there are many connections between Dahl's book and his life. Dahl's childhood and family life were very happy and he found Norway was quite fascinating. Norway provided him with much of the background material that he later used in"The Withces". The Dahl's campus life was not happy at all .In his"Boy:Tales of Childhood",he mentioned the existence of violence in schools several times .This had great impact on Dahl and the campus life in his books was always unhappy. Dahl had a very unique idea.He didn't trust schools and weathly people: These people look like civilized but in fact they are very cruel and selfish.His short stories showed his ideas as well as his fiction for children. And his idea had relationship with his mother and his experience.Raold Dahl thought family was very important.
