Graduated from the Composition Department of the Central Conservatory of Music in 1961,Guan Naizhong received music education from his father and from Professor Kubelik,a German pianist since his childhood.Since then he had been the Conductor and Composer-in-Residence of Chinese Art Ensemble,Conductor of Beijing Art Ensemble and Chinese Song and Dance Troupe.Guan Naizhong was the Music Director of Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra and the Conductor of Kaohsiung City Chinese Orchestra.He was invited to be guest conductor of many orchestras including the Central Philharmonic Orchestra of China,the China Broadcast Chinese Orchestra,the Central Chinese Orchestra of China,Central Song and Dance Troupe,Shanghai Chinese Orchestra,Beijing Film Orchestra, Taiwan Symphony Orchestra,Taipei Municipal Chinese Classical Orchestra,The Ministry of National Defence Symphony Orchestra of Taiwan and Hong Kong Sinfonietta,etc.As a prolific composer,Guan Naizhong's early works include Symphony No.1,Piano Concerto No.2, String Quartet No.1 and many works of dance music.In 1979,he emigrated to Hong Kong and composed many works for Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra and Hong Kong Music Office,including Journey to Lhasa,Piano Concerto No.3 Hero,The Beautiful Scenes of Yunnan, Love Song of Tianshan,Green Pine and Wind Bell,Spring Rain is Falling on Li River,Fireworks,Instrumental Guide to the Chinese Orchestra,Piano Concerto No.4 Ambush,Symphonic Poem Overture, Symphonic Poem Li Sao for Qin and Chinese Orchestra,Erhu Concerto No.1,Dizi Concerto No.1,Percussion Concerto No.1,Dance Drama Flying to the Moon and Symphony No.2,Suite of Ci Poems by JIANG Bai-shi,Banhu Concerto Hilly Country Image and Cello Concerto Endless Way.He also adapted and rearranged many Chinese folk music. Emigrated to Canada in 1994,Guan Naizhong still engages in composition and is active in music circle of Mainland China,Hong Kong and Taiwan.This thesis consists of two parts totally.The first part will introduce Guan Naizhong's art career and his achievements.And the second part is to make a musical analysis to the second movement of Guan Naizhong's Erhu Concerto No.1.Furthermore,the performing technique and musical treatment for the third movement of Erhu Concerto No.1 also will be explored in this part.
