"shuo Wen Jie Zi" Road Walking The Meaning Of The Word

This paper starting with the meaning of the words, studied the words in Shuo Wen Jie Zi exhaustively, found the walking words, and explicated, classified and constructed the semanteme field. This paper consists of six parts:Prolegomenon: summarized previous research results of the walking words in Shuo Wen Jie Zi, and elaborated the significance, the value and the method of the research. It also defined the scope of the research and built the meaning system of the walking words in Shuo Wen Jie Zi. From chapter one to chapter four researched the original meaning and the etymological meaning of the four classifications of the walking words'meaning system.Chapter one: from the walking words and other similar meaning words in Shuo Wen Jie Zi, summarized the object of walking---various"roads". From them, the sub-path, the passage, the path and the footprint these four kinds were discussed in detail.Chapter two: the research of the action words of"walking"and"not walking"was divided into three parts that were the words means normal walking, the words means fast walking and the words means not walking. They described various actions about people's walking. No matter the normal waling, the fast walking, the slow walking or the not-walking, they all had their corresponding words. From this, we could find people's meticulous observation of walking.Chapter three: the research of the walking words contained the study of the words meaning walking, the words showing the state of walking and other words describing the posture of walking. They described various states of walking. But because of the limitation of knowledge, the ancient people couldn't understand the relationship between Chinese characters and the original words in language. So many characters were created blindly or repeatedly.Chapter four: the research of this kind of words connecting with walking, such as the words meaning jumping, walking back and forth, running made the scope of my research to the extend of the action words connecting with walking. I divided them into jumping, walking back and forth and running three parts to arrange and study.Epilogue: summarized the walking words in Shuo Wen Jie Zi, concluded the vocabulary system and semantic features of the walking words in Shuo Wen Jie Zi, and investigated the characteristics of vocabulary and meaning which were reflected in the walking words in Shuo Wen Jie Zi. At last, the paper's inadequacies and the direction of future efforts were pointed out.
