On Tragic Consciousness In Lu Ling's Novels

Lu Ling is a special existence in history of Chinese literature. In 40-50 age of the 20th century, there was a wave on research of Lu Ling's works, then to the silence. In new period, academia began to focus on Lu Ling again, and began to explore Lu Ling deeply. Many of Lu Ling's works contained rich tragic consciousness. He pitied, and earnestly pondered national survival circumstance and deep psychological world in the changeable years between the l930s and the 1940s.This thesis is from the angle of the tragic consciousness in Lu Ling's novels, to explore Lu Ling's creation. First, from the specific forms discusses the tragic consciousness in Lu Ling's novels, then from the construction ways analyzes the tragic consciousness in Lu Ling's novels, and explores the origin of the tragic consciousness of Lu Ling as well, finally, values the tragic consciousness in Lu Ling's novelsThe first chapter, the specific forms of the tragic consciousness in Lu Ling's novels, introduces five main points: being unable to fulfill the self-worth, the decline of the traditional human relations, the break of love myth, death of human destiny which cannot be resisted, the deep question of human nature. Lu Ling expressed his powerlessness through writing the tragic fates of the two special groups: intellectuals, soldiers, who could not realize their self-worth. The traditional human relations lost in Lu Ling's novels, and the affection that blood is thicker than water was defeated by money and power. Lu Ling was a pessimist on love. And he doubted the love myth, so there was almost no success of love in his all novels, whether the arranged traditional marriage or the free modern marriage, and all the emotion between men and women was infected with strong tragic feature. That people cannot resist the death of human destiny added more tragedy. The suspicion of goodness in the human nature made the tragic consciousness more strongly in Lu Ling's novels. The second chapter, the construction ways of the tragic consciousness in Lu Ling's novels, discusses from three aspects. The main feature of tragedy is conflict. Lu Ling constructed the tragic consciousness in his novels from the conflict in social environment, the conflict in the family, and the conflict in personal feelings. The first two parts are the character of the external environment, and the last is the character of the spiritual environment which is more important. Therefore, Lu Ling's novels almost covered all the conflicts of the survival state of the character.The third chapter, the origin of Lu Ling's tragic consciousness, mainly explores from Lu Ling's personal experience and personality factor, and from the influence of the tragedy culture of both China and the foreign countries. The social unrest, the death of his own father in infancy, the dropout as a teenager and the tragic fate as a young man raised Lu Ling's tragic consciousness. And the tragic consciousness in the culture of both China and the foreign countries deeply influenced Lu Ling, constructing his unique cultural psychology.The fourth chapter, the valuation of the tragic consciousness in Lu Ling's novels, mainly explores through the comparison of the vertical and horizontal directions to highlight the unique tragic consciousness in Lu Ling's novels. Through the comparison with other writers, Lu Ling's unique thinking of modern intellectuals, excavating the social grassroots people's original strength and the unique psychological description can be demonstrated. Lu Ling inherited and developed the"May Fourth"writers'tragic consciousness, such as Lu Xun, and he also was an outstanding writer in his contemporaries, even more in the world literature, in addition, he provided a writing of the tragic consciousness paradigm for the writers in new period. But Lu Ling's creation had obvious defects: figure profiling, figure distortion, dry language and so on.
