Explore The "self" In Good Faith Speech

Among the bright stars of contemporary literature, Zhang Jie who recieved Mao Dun Literature Award the second time attracted much attention. Zhang Jie's honest writing which poured her life experience, on the one hand makes her reach a position of prominence in the New Literary History of Women, on the other hand makes her shrouded in controversy because of her "extreme" and "harsh" which is not only in her writings but also in her daily life. This article argues that explore the "self" is the main line runs through the novels of Zhang Jie. And the "ultimate faith" when she talked about"self"is an important reason that makes her get a mixed result of her work. Aims at an overall interpretation of Zhang Jie's novels, this article try to study how Zhang Jie digs the"self"in her works. And try to find the advantages and disadvantages which brought by her sincere words.The first chapter systematically reviews the development of exploring"self"in Zhang Jie's novel. Zhang Jie's novel changes a lot in these three ways: creative concepts, narrative focus and the writing style. These changes shows that she exploring the "self" from the general meaning of "human" to the individual "I"; the ways to achieve "self" changed from serving the motherland to the freedom of the individual soul. The way to construct"self"also changed from narrative way to autobiography. All these "internal transfer" trend is not only because of the time but also because Zhang thinks that the localization of the literary should be a tool and she can't grasp the grand theme powerfully.ChapterⅡ,Ⅲ,Ⅳ,starting from the text itself, talked about the content, features, gains and losses during she exploring"self"in her different stages of creation. In the"suffering idealist"phase, Zhang Jie thinks that in the social stratification a social man should contribute to his motherland and in the gender level females should be independent. Zhang Jie still calls for love and beauty though she is very suffering because human is experiencing repression. And the readers quite agree with her. In the"penetrating witch"phase, the disillusionment of her ideals of utopian makes her doubt about the relationship between life, literature and self, so she tore the"self"which she constucted before. This is performed as the destroy and alienation of the intellectual's"self". This study which is based on the skepticism and critical consciousness aggravated Zhang Jie's Caustic style not only in her insights of the social illness but also Women's issues, and this formed her extreme personality. In the"old-complain evil"phase, Zhang Jie maximize his own life experiences into the text, she contructed a"self"which is only belonged to herself, and nobody can show his different views. By the reconstruction and trail of the"self", she achieved the soul-free"self".
