To The Ancient To The Future

In this dissertation, we choose Zhao Mengfu and Dong Qichang, two authorities in art history with great achievements, as research subjects because they are not only famous for painting and calligraphy and theoretical writings, but also occupy an important position in the field of Chinese painting collection and identification. They are extremely good at identification and rich in collection. Activities in this area centered on them were of great richness in both of their times. And such activities have in turn played an important role in their artistic creation and theoretical writings. This dissertation mainly adopts comparison as the research method. By comparing and analyzing Zhao's and Dong's Fine Art Connoisseur Activities, different effects of such activities on their artistic creation and theoretical writings and their influence and value in art history, this paper aims to reveal the significant value and meaning of Chinese painting collection and identification as well as do some new exploration in the field of Chinese calligraphy and painting collection and identification, and art history.
