This article explores the nature of the listening comprehension and the effectiveness of listening strategy training. The author retrospect the researches on the relationship between the training of learning strategy and the improvement of listening comprehension in China and abroad. This research took the 78 international students of the International Cultural Exchange College of Northwest University as subject, test the effect of the listening strategy training then have the conclusion. As the development of cognitive psychology, more and more researchers have recognized that listening comprehension is a positive process in which listener reconstruct the information by using "bottom-up processing","top-bottom processing" and "parallel" mode, base on this realization, the author believes that using listening strategies will benefit listening comprehension. The key problems in this article are how can the teacher manipulate the strategy based instruction in traditional educational setting? Is it effective to improve the listening comprehension by conducting strategy training? The author conducted the research on the effectiveness of strategy based instruction by pre-test, interview and post-test, then analyzed the data by SPSS software and T-test, at last got the conclusion. At the same time, this article is giving suggestions to listening teaching:1) teachers should enhance the awareness of using listening strategy of students;2) teachers should learn how to improve students' understanding of listening text by triggering their background knowledge;3) In the classroom, teachers should encourage students to explore their own way of listening and assess their own learning process.
