The Silent Majority - Modern Chinese Literature In The Group Image

The May Fourth period is a person awakening era, it is an era of person's self-consciousness awakening era. The May Fourth literature is a person literature, it enlightens person's self-consciousness awakening. The humanistic thought introduced into China from the west, it makes people begin to recognize the human existence, and it makes people know that person constitute the basic unit of human society and person is the core of human society, everybody plays an important part in the society. The social status of groups formed by individuals should not be ignored. The reason why interest the group image of modern Chinese literature, because the image of modern literature history load a rich ideological and cultural connotation, it is the direct result of popular imagination in modern nation-state anxiety.Group image is an important part of the characters. Although they constitute the background of the times, which are not static around the typical characters, they always show a positive intervention. In concrete works, group image maybe have only a few words, their expression and behavior maybe like the stick figure, they maybe appear in one scene. But they have a capability to change the development of a novel situation, to affect the thoughts and actions of the typical characters, to control the survival fate of the typical characters. They embody the common psychological of whole Chinese society that the survival time of works characters and they show the writer's creative position and inner feelings. Now there have less achievement of research the group image of modern Chinese literature, the research achievement can be seen only on individual authors (such as Lu Xun, Xiao Hong, etc) depict the group image. So there should have a great space and meaning to research the group image of modern Chinese literature at macro level.This thesis' structure establishes according to the different positions and mentality of writers who face the public, there have the elite position, class position, national position and the position of everyday life respectively. According to these positions to study the modality of the modern writers create the group image and they embody the complex connotation. The group image in a text is the silent majority. First of all, although they exist in the texts as the most form, they hide in the typical image that has clear face and distinctive character. And then because of the public temperament of the people in the texts can only be an imagine result, which from different writers in different positions. So the group image becomes silent majority which allows the writers' comment.
