Parenthesis Of The Function Domain

Parenthesis is a very common language phenomenon. Many scholars at home and abroad have made different studies about parentheses. But it seems that most of them are vague classifications from grammar analysis and pragmatic functions. These studies are less systematic.On the basis of previous studies made by scholars, the author of this paper attempts to analyze the function of parentheses from the perspective of philosophy of language, following some related theories of functional grammar. Through the empirical analyses, this paper demonstrates that the essence of function of parentheses should be connected to the human-to-human world.The whole article is divided into the following six chapters. Besides the introduction and ending, there are four chapters. Chapter 1 is a literature review of the present researches on parentheses. Chapter 2 introduces the function of language from the perspective of philosophy of language, including:the function of language is a record and reappearance of human cognition towards the world, analyses of ordinary language by the school of ordinary language, the function of language from the perspective of philosophy of language. Chapter 3 researches on empirical analyses of function of parentheses according to the studies of traditional grammar, transformational generative grammar and systematic functional grammar. Chapter 4 is the reflection and construction of the function of parentheses. The function of language should be expanded as:first, language is the reflection and description of outside world; second, language is the reappearance of human inner covert world; third, language is a constructor of human subjective creation of the world, language possesses creative function. The last part concludes parenthesis as a means of language is the reflection of human and their world.
