All through her life Helene Cixous devotes herself to writing and thinking of it. For a long time, she claims a feminine writing what she calls ecriture feminine in which she means not a single subject but a whole web of intertwined concerns and reflections:on the relations between writing, exile, foreignness, loss, and death; on the relations between writing, giving, nourishment, love and life; and on the relations between all of the above and being a woman or a man.She works hard on ecriture feminine. As a theory it mainly as an rebellion in language and an exploration to politics, thought and poem. As a writing it is free and special in continuity, abundance and drift.Through an exploration to the main writings of Helene Cixous, which consists of fictions, plays, philosophy, criticisms and interviews, with acceptations and studies of them in European and American intellctual circle, this essay has simply outlined the developments and shifts of Cixous's ideas. Cixous's 'theory' of ecriture feminine may indeed have started out as a response to, or defence against, a certain limiting, appropriating and destructive tendency in 'masculine' theoretical discourse, but over the years it has grown, flowered and spread to cover a wide, amorphous field of poetic writing, reading and thinking. Its theoretical creation lies in a kind of multiplicity, unlimitity and always on the way toward thinking.
