Zhang Zhibin National Vocal Arts Explore

The thesis explores features of vocal music art, teaching of vocal music art, artistic practice and production of scientific research of Professor Zhang Zhibin who is also a well-known singer. Coupled with the studies of the development status of national vocal music, the thesis also surveys some essence of national vocal music art in order to provide a reference for the author himself and others as well as for beneficial inspiration of developing national vocal music.1. The vocal music features of Professor Zhang Zhibin reflect the universal beauty of traditional Chinese vocal music art. His voice is crisp, bright, delicate, wide, soft, clear, and emotional. It is found from several songs sung by him that he can handle the dialectical relationship between words and voice, emotion and voice naturally, skillfully with his own characteristics. The unique style which he has absorbed from the local opera, folk songs indicates that only by being rooted in the fertile soil of the culture of national and folk music can vocal music art retain its vitality.2. The vocal music teaching by Professor Zhang Zhibin is systematized theoretically in the aspects of breathing, words, sound and emotion. The thesis summarizes the principles of his teaching conception and the teaching methods with the principles summarized as "combination of emotion and reason";"improving the occasion step by step"; "carrying forward the tradition and learning from others" and the teaching methods as demonstration, comparison, analysis, and the firm grasp of the national style. A few examples of training on the contents and methods are provided in the thesis.3. Mr. Zhang Zhibin has a fruitful production of scientific research. The thesis analyzes his monograph, Theory and Practice of Vocal Music Teaching and two academic papers, "Comparison between Shaanxi Northern Folk Song and Shaanxi Southern Folk Song from the Perspective of Humanistic Geography", "Research on College Vocal Music Teaching Reform from the Appearance of Primitive Singing on TV Grand Competition". Mr. Zhang Zhibin's production of scientific research is inseparable from his long-term artistic practice and in-depth probe into national and folk music, which are of great significance of reference and guidance for the later practice.4. The thesis makes a survey of the status quo of national vocal music art, holding that the teaching quality of vocal music goes to the two extremes, which hinders the singing talents from being trained and that, despite the conception of "being national and scientific", the fact that it is easy to know but difficult to act causes the ineffective implementation of the conception and the problems of similar styles. Owning to his long-term visit to the countryside, learning from and experiencing the folk life, Mr. Zhang Zhibin's art practice is characterized by his own art essence and unique personality which is worth learning. This is in much accordance with what a great master, Shen Xiang's remarks, "It is imperative to stand on your own feet in the place where you work and produce singing techniques conforming to the habits of people's liking and appreciation.
