In the history of Calligraphy, Ming Dong Qichang(董其昌)and Wang Duo(王铎)attached great importance to imitate their predecessors, and their lives are constantly draw from ancients. In the course of imitating the ancients, their methods and the direction of pursuit almost the same, but works for their practice imitated from the ancients to the maturity of the writing is very different face to form two distinct artistic style. Although Dong and Wang all advocated imitating the ancients, their understanding of "traditional method" were different. Dong Qichang stressed that "Similarity is Wonderful, but breakthrough is Excellent".He pursuit of" unadorned and antique" by throughing the process of imitating the ancients on "the ancients into I".Wang Duo as the purpose with" not separated from the ancient, not stickle ancients".
