"the Dictionary", Word Semantics

Shuowenjiezi written by Xu Shen in Donghan dynasty is the earliest dictionary in china, which is arranged by radical, analyzing the graphemic and wordsource systematically. It will be great benefits to the research of linguistics to the study the words of each part of Showenjiezi. Based on the"Jin"part of Shuowenjiezi, this paper will make tentative research in the denomination of the words and exposits the culture meanings of the words.This paper consists of five parts: preface,"Jin"part of Shuowenjiezi classifies,"Jin"part of Shuowenjiezi semantics analysis,"Jin"part of Shuowenjiezi cultural implications, the conclusion. In the preface, this paper will introduce present research situation and how to make research about the paper. The first part will classify the words according to their meanings. In general, those words can be classified into 6 categories: the name of metal ; the Character of metal; Metallurgy; the produces from metal; measurement and"others"which including the words can't classed to first five categories. The second part will make semantic research on"Jin"part of Shuowenjiezi . It will analyse some concept , then introduce the method which used to analyze the semantic fields and denominated meanings. It will take some words for examples to make research . The third part will introduce the cultural implications reflected by"Jin"part of Shuowenjiezi. Finally , the paper will make a conclusion.
