Xiao Tong Poetry Study

In "Literary selections Foreword" Xiao Tong once mentioned that the highest state of the article is"gorgeous but not frivolous, elegant but not vulgar". He not only says like this, but also diligently devotes to it in the reality creation. Xiao Tong's work style is different with his father and the younger brother, and his literature ideology and the work characteristic have formed the striking contrast with the Nan Liang Dynasty flowery literary style, therefore studying Xiao Tong's prose have the extremely vital significance to us in further understanding the Nan Liang Dynasty Culture and Esthetic Values.The prose of Xiao Tong follows its consistent artistic feature, namely elegant and solemn. The author carefully analyzes the prose content and the writing characteristic using the literature which the predecessors wrote in order to grasp the work artistry and the esthetic value from the source. Although the overall style is invariable, some work is prominent in artistic feature . Especially in his article there are many age boutique, for example,"Introducing sequence""Sequences of TaoYuanMing","seven qi"which we must invest the enough enthusiasm and mental effort to highlight the work characteristic.This article is divided into four parts roughly, the poetry, the article, the love knot and the work influence to the later generation. The author will elaborate every segment separately.Xiao Tong's poetry saved is not many in quantity, and can be divided into the following categories: Buddhism poems, Reciprocal's Poems and musical conservatory poems . Overall the Buddhism poetry accounts for the majority of all the poetry, which is the emphasis of poetry creation. In his short 31 year life Xiao Tong tirelessly researched a lot of Buddhist and Buddhism, made friend with many famous monks at that time, therefore he has the profound Buddhist knowledge, hold the Buddhist meeting and explained the Buddha principle easily. Through his Buddhism poems research we can clear off why Buddhism was so popular at that time, what's the goal and literature significance poet wrote the Buddhism poems. Only a small number of Reciprocal's poetry is survived ,but they are eternal because of sincere feelings. As for the musical conservatory poem, most of the work is only simulated. From the content and the form he made in-depth simulation, but the simulation component is too much to cover up the true literary level. In general the classification of Xiao Tong's article is numerous and diverse, and the creation standard also does not have the absolute uniformity. As for the antithetical style creation, Xiao Tong nearly leaned all talents, therefore they could have published with high-quality.Without doubt his literature thought is revealed through the antithetical style creation, even provides the basic theory basis for us to study "Literary selections". In contrast his fu work is very controversial in the literature and there are defects in the number of words marks, moreover someone proved that the so-called Xiao Tong's fu is actually Xiao Gang's work. Due to these reasons this article did not discuss it detailed, only carried on the brief analysis on the correspondence letters and royal government's memorial in order to make an overall summary about his literature thought.Look from the "Literary selections" we can see that Xiao Tong has given the high approval to Cao Zhi's work and has also quoted words and expressions or the intention from the work of three Cao many times in prose writing. All they showed that Xiao Tong regards three Cao works as important extremely, hence starting from similarity in the status and the historical status the author carries on analysis and research, specially compares Xiao Tong's work to Three Cao's work in order to explain his love knot on three Cao.
