Antonin Dvorak(1841-1904) was one of most famous classical music composers in Czechoslovakia, and was the founders of the Czechoslovakian folk music. He wrote many heavenly tones and pushed the Slavic folk music to the world, which obtained the great love and attention of the worldwide people.Although Dvorak was famous for his Symphony and chamber music, his achievements in the piano music are indispensable. His Slavonic Dances for piano four hands, Humoresque for solo piano and Poetic Tone Pictures for piano suite were engraved on our mind. Poetic Tone Pictures attracted every pianist for its exquisite harmony and beautiful melody, and the wonderful scenery was typical Dvorak's music vocabulary. The piano suite showed the world his genius of depicting the natural beauty with music vocabulary, and therefore, Poetic Tone Pictures took important part in Dvorak's piano music.By carding the previous literatures of Poetic Tone Pictures, the writer thought the current research was mainly focused on the sound image and music form, and was lack of the analysis of the music vocabulary, music aesthetics, performance style, and playing difficulties. Based on my research and reflections, some insights on the above problems were proposed. The paper includes six parts as follows:In the preface, the detailed analysis on the research background and significance, the current status and research contents was depicted.The chapter 1 includes two parts. Part 1 was the introduction of Dvorak and overall analysis of his music traits; Part 2 was the brief introduction of creation background and work characteristics on Poetic Tone Pictures.The chapter 2 includes four parts. Part 1 was the musical composition analysis of Poetic Tone Pictures, especially on the combination of complex form, rondo form and variation technique; Part 2 was the melody analysis and the overall summary of single channel, multi-channel and folk melody was performed; Part 3 was the mode and tonality analysis, and the choice of modulation, transposition and tonality usually used in Poetic Tone Pictures was discussed; Part 4 was the rhythm analysis, and the usage of rhythm accent and rest symbol was depicted. The chapter 3 analyzed the music style of Poetic Tone Pictures. In order to make the players grasp the music style of the piano suite, the paper category the artworks' traits from an aesthetic point of view. The chapter includes five parts and was discussed from the symphony, the title and the nationality.The chapter 4 was the playing illustration of Poetic Tone Pictures. The technological difficulties encountered possibly in playing the piano suite were discussed and some manners to resolve the problems were proposed. The chapter includes five parts as follows, the performance of octave, the performance of staccato, the control of dynamic, the performance of melody and the usage of footboard.The last chapter is the conclusion of the paper.
