"Nation—state appeared in the late Middle Ages and formed at the era of capitalism in Europe", it was got rid of the old order and formed a new country. In political terms, Nation—state have the sovereignty, has established a comprehensive national institutions, national borders was gradually formed; in economic terms, Nation—state established a big home market and opened up foreign markets; in the ideological and cultural terms, as the main body of the people, the citizen sprouted a relatively strong national consciousness, they recognize their own country, they hope it strong; as the main body of the people, Nation—state was mainly constitute of the citizens.In the formation of modern nation-state, the citizens played an important role. In this paper, I want to find the role of the citizens in the formation of modern nation-state.In political terms, the citizens played a key role in the formation of modern nation-state. With the development of middle class, they not only promoted the Reformation of HenryⅧ, but also prompted the British Parliament House of Commons particularly, national institutions in the Thomas·Cromwell era made a rapidly progress and became more and more mature, so modern prototype of the nation-state system of government is basically formed.In economic terms, the citizens played a key role in the formation of modern nation-state. The British domestic trade in the 16th century made a rapidly development. Britain's rural economy also has achieved rapid development. Meanwhile, Britain's foreign trade developed rapidly, and its market in Europe, the Near East, Africa, Far East China and India.In ideological and culture terms, the citizens to the modern nation-state formation is mainly to promote the national language, with patriotism as the main content of the spread of humanism and the National consciousness Enhanced.Which is indispensable in the formation of modern nation-state in the ideological and cultural terms.In religion, citizens played very important part in the formation of modern nation-state of the United Kingdom. With the increasing development of the economy of towns and villages in the late Middle Ages, citizens grew up. They urgently needed to establish a unified national market and uncorrupted church. Wycliffe's Reformation, as the representative of citizens, emancipated people's thinking and promoted the struggle of people against the Church objectively. It laid important ideological foundation for the Reformation in the United Kingdom and even the Western Europe; in the support of citizens, reformation conducted by Henry Vill's laid vital basis for setting up its own national church. This was also essential for setting up British Nation-state.
