Since modern times, the national states have led a dominant position throughout the whole world. However, in face of the impact of the new age issues such as globalization and cultural diversity, the national-state has also encountered an unprecedented challenge. Where should national-state go in the future? Based on the European Union, the United Nations and the development of the global organization, Habermas proposed the post-national political theory. In Habermas’ s view, the national states are a historical precondition of post-national structure. Although facing the unprecedented challenges now, the national states still offer us some resources for reference to cope with new challenges. In a pluralistic society, Habermas tried to lead the citizens, especially those from the ethnic community who have a national identity to identify the constitution principles and the value of democratic process by using the constitutional patriotism, thus surpass the national identity and establish the mutual-recognized post-national community.Against the globalization and cultural diversity, Chinese should gradually overcome the narrow nationalism and establish the inclusive political identity which is “unity in diversity”. This needs Chinese to perfect the political and legal system step by step, strengthen the national cohesion and build the diversity in national unity with Chinese own characteristics based on the reality of the whole country.
