What the one of the most important problems in modern international law is the regime of islands. The regime of island involves the concept of the island itself, the concept of the islands’ legal status and its role in the marine’s delimitation. In the present theory of the modern international law, there exists the lack of the clear international rules when it comes to the role and the position of the islands in the marine delimitation. Besides, there are a lot of the state practice show that it is significant that if we to make the role and the status of the islands in the marine delimitation.In my paper, at first, I will state the Article 121 of the “United Nations convention on the law of the sea”(hereinafter referred to as the convention), exploring the system of the island and the role that the island play in the maritime demarcation. Moreover, I will study the state practice on the marine delimitation, to serve the reference to ourselves when we resolve the disputes over the South China Sea, as well as to fight for China’s national security and economic interests.
