Since the effect of ?The United Nation Oceanic Treaty? from 1982 on, nearly the entire coastline countries altered or constructed the related oceanic laws and regulations, and proclaimed their rights of the territorial waters, and so on based on them. But for the problem of the natural environment, in the countries where the coastlines are faced or connected with each other, there are many related facts and cases of disputes about the delimitation of the seas for the reason of overlapping of their territorial waters. The originally complicated practice of the delimitation of the seas seems even difficult to solve for some political, economic and natural questions. The delimitation of the islands is one of them. To any state, Island is a kind of indispensability part of the territory. It is endowed with unique status by International Law of the Sea, which makes whether states take islands into account has huge influence to delimitation of the reciprocal maritime space. Combining concrete functions or effects that the exist of island brings during the process of delimitation of the sea, this article expatiates the law system of the island, and conforms the weightiness of the island's legal status; and finally, it synoptically introduces the status quo of the South China Sea disputes with our state, correlating scheme and mechanism for dispute resolution, analyzes the significance of the island to resolve delimitation and other disputes of the sea.
