Analysis Of "Political Strongman" In Russian Democratization

After the collapse of Soviet Union, the democracy and democratization of Russia has received much attention.In June 1990,Russia had issued its Declaration of Sovereignty,became an independent sovereign state,which is the prerequisite of democratization.In June 1991,Yeltsin had been elected Russian president by people directly,Russia embarked on the road of democratization formally.Now Russia has established primary democracy,modern democratic constitution has been promulgated, general election of central and local government,separation and balance of power, party politics taking shape,and the establishment of social communication mechanism between people and president.The democracy of Russia still has many problems at this stage,low level of institutionalization of democracy,the political system has not play its due effect, the low level of rule of law of social governance, the system of political party has not yet formed,both civil society and civic culture are in primary stage. The "political strongman" color of the democratization of Russia is strong,it can be seen from the performance of Yeltsin and Putin as a president. "Political strongman" phenomenon is mainly due to nationalism political culture, maintaining external security after Cold War, the threat of domestic terrorism,personal factors of political leaders.Currently, the Russian people support the "political strongman" and "political strongman" will promote the development of democratization of Russia gradually and orderly. Russia will continue to be strongly influenced by the“political strongman”at the initial stage of Democratization,“political strongman“will defend the democratization of Russia.Due to the conflict between the theory of democratization and the “strongman”,Russia should improve the level of institutionalization of democracy gradually,strengthen the power of civil society, and strive to foster participatory political culture.With the perfection of democracy, "political strongman" phenomenon will gradually disappear, the rule of law and the institution of democracy itself can have stable operation.
