Modernization requires transformation of farmers' status.It is a universal phenomenon.China has the largest populationof famers in the world.The transformation of status of severalhundreds million of famers will not only influnence ecnomicand social development,but also promote politicaldevelopment in China. The improvement of politicalsystematization and democratization,realization of permanentnational political stability and development of politicalculture all depend upon the transformation of farmers' status.Thus we can say,the process of stams transformation ofChinese farmers is the process of China's politicaldevelopment.In general,the process of political developmentof China will depend upon farmers to transform smoothlyfrom tradional social statlls to a new one required byadaptation to modernization and become truelly independentsocial subject,thus form a new modern political force.
