Taiwan is the indivisible part of China's territory . To the east of it is the Pacific Ocean , to the northeast of it is the Liuqiu Islands , to the south of it is the Bashi Channel and to the west of it faces the mainland across the Taiwan strait . Taiwan is the center of international sea-lane of western Pacific Ocean and the vital communication line of sea connection between China and countries in Pacific Ocean area . On October First 1949 , the People's Republic of China was founded . It indicated that Chinese people who underwent more than 100 years' suffering from the Opium War stood up . But the cause of real unification was not fulfilled at that time. The Kunmintang regime who dominated Chinese mainland for 22 years retreated in defeat to Taiwan . From then on , both sides of Taiwan straits were in the state of isolation and confrontation . Unifying motherland ought to be the internal affair among the Chinese people who live on both sides of Taiwan strait . Because of the interference with Taiwan affair by the western powers under the lead of USA for their interests , Taiwan affair became a more and more complicated and sensitive problem which affected the diplomacy of China gradually .After the cold war , international structure changed deeply and complicatedly which has brought about the overall adjustment of America's global strategy. As an important part of the global strategy especially the east-Asia strategy of USA , the America's Taiwan policy not only changed along with the changes of the America's global strategy , but also became the weatherglass which affected the development and changes of the Sino-US relationship . The Sino-US relationship is a pair of overall bilateral relationship among Chinese foreign relationship . How to deal with the Sino-Us relationship is the most important thing among China's diplomacy. So studying the post-cold-war America's strategic interest has important and far-reaching theoretical value and practical significance to studying the foundation on which America formulates it's Taiwan policy , to studying the development ,changes and trend of the relationship between USA and Taiwan , to comprehending present America's global strategy and the strategy in Asia-Pacific Area , for our country formulating current policy to USA and Taiwan and accomplishing unification of China .Nowadays , the studying about the America's Taiwan policy is very comprehensive and profound , but the about why USA thoroughly promotes the relationship with Taiwan and what kinds of strategic interests which USA has in Taiwan is not complete and systematic . This fundamental issue should be one of the focal points of studying about the current relationship between USA and Taiwan . The period this article focuses is post-cold-war . The foundation of it is the changes of the America's global strategy in this period . The expounding way of it is a combination of theory and history . This article makes every effort to comprehensively and objectively handle the development of the America's Taiwan policy after the cold war and thoroughly reveal the America's strategic interests in Taiwan in this period , and then prospect the new changes of the current America's Taiwan policy . This article includes five parts . The First part , from the analysis of the America's global interests after the cold war , we can grasp the America's interests in Taiwan ; The second part is about America's geopolitical strategic interests in Taiwan after the cold war ; The third part is about America's economic strategic interests in Taiwan after the cold war ; The forth part is about America's ideological strategic interests in Taiwan after the cold war ; The fifth part, from America's strategic interests in Taiwan post cold war , we prospect the changes, reasons and consequences of America's Taiwan policy .
