With "regionalization" and "regionally" as the entry point, the thesis attempts to define the East Asian regionalism through the review and analysis of its historical development. The thesis holds that the advent of "10+3 "mechanism symbolizes the real formation of regionalism in East Asia, and that the mechanism is the inevitable result of the prolonged development of regionalization in East Asia and the concentrated expression of the East Aisan regionality. The unique East Asian regionality is a product under the joint effect of both internal and external factors. It reflects the strong wish of various countries in East Asia for regional cooperation. However, we must bear in mind that the further development of regionalism in East Asia is still facing many thorny difficulties and obstacles, which has, in effect, impeded the intensification of East Asian cooperation.Based on the above analysis, the thesis holds that the perfection of East Asian regionalism cannot be achieved in one move. It can only be achieved in a step-by-step manner through starting from such "lower politics" fields as economy and technology, which will need highly efficient cooperation and concerted efforts of all countries in this region, including China. China has made indelible contribution to the regionalisn in East Asia, but in formulating the overall strategies and conducting the specific practices concerning its foreign relations, China still needs comprehensive thinking and proper positioning of this novelty of regionalism so as to safeguard its national interests to the greatest extent, and to create a favorable international environment for its socialist construction. The thesis also puts forward some relevant policy proposals in this regard.
