Investment-oriented Life Insurance Product Development And Its International Comparative Studies

Meeting insurance companies' need of innovation and diversifying customers' choices of investment, investment-featured life insurance experienced a short period of prosperity in Chinese insurance market. But soon it fell into disfavor. What's wrong with the investment-featured life insurance in China and what does its future look like? Based on plentiful facts and data, this paper is trying to find the answers to the questions by international comparison, applying the knowledge and principles in fields of insurance, finance, securities, marketing, management etc. To make the international comparison easier, section I of this paper defines the meaning of the investment-featured life insurance. Section II explains the reasons of exploiting the investment-featured life insurance in China from perspectives of industry features, market structure, competition edge and so on. Comprehensive international comparison is made in Section III in terms of background of product exploitation, external environment, operation process, residents' awareness of insurance. Then, problems are pointed out in Section IV and counter strategies are provided in Section V.To sum up, it comes the two main conclusions of this paper. First, by international comparison we can learn from other countries with advanced insurance industry and shorten the matching period of the investment-featured life insurance. Second, the vigorous development of national economy ,the gradual improvement of living standard, the large size of population and the main trend of life insurance together ensure the promising future of the investment-featured life insurance. The related parties should not wait and complain but actively fulfill their own obligations.
