The development of technology demands effective means for the enforcement of copyright. Within the legal institution of copyright protection, the doctrine of liability for infringement occupies a crucial position, which can be clearly seen in the modern legal history of China, Japan and many other countries in Europe and America. Investigating the doctrine of liability for infringement, we should take into account both the similarities and distinctions of the copyright legal institution in comparison with other legal institutions. Furthermore, we should take the traditional civil law theory as guidance and make our theory compatible with the doctrine of liability for damages establishedby WTO in Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights. The author argues that the main doctrine of liability for infringement in copy right law should be the doctrine of liability for wrongs, which should also cooperate with other doctrines of liability to form a sound legal mechanism against the infringement of copyright.
