With China joining WTO, the textile and garment industry should benefit the most from it. However after joining by a year, the development of the giant garment enterprises which represent our country garment industry as whole were far from satisfactory. This illustrated that joining WTO bring China's garment industry not only opportunities but also competition and challenges.The first paragraph of the thesis briefly introduced the opportunities given to our garment industry after joining WTO. This includes expand in our garment export, improve the strength of the enterprise, provide our garment industry to upgrade themselves and improve their overall competitiveness, and also bring our giant garment enterprise into the world market, an opportunity which they never had before. The second paragraph of the thesis analyses the competition and challenges faced by our garment enterprise after joining WTO in two aspects. From the foreign trade expect, our garment enterprises used to compete in the international market through low pricing and this will lose its edge after joining WTO. From the domestic trade aspect, joining WTO will bring in competition, as our local brand will face challenges from the world brand. In fact, WTO has made the line dividing domestic and international market very indistinguishable, as both markets will face internationlised consumer group. From hindsight, our giant garment enterprise must plan their export and domestics sales together and focus on brand.The third paragraph of the thesis provides a review of the current scenario of our giant garment enterprises. Our country being the world No 1 garment producer and exporter, our giant garment enterprises have been in quite some time developed their own competitive advantage but as compared to foreign enterprises their still lack behind in many aspect, at least there are far behind in two stages. Our garment enterprise lack behind in software management is most significant. For these weakness and shortcomings, writer in his fourth paragraph has explained in detail how our giant garment enterprise should actively involve and compete internationally, upgrade its own strength, look for new development model, built up a scientific and modernized management system, follow international brand's operation model and eventually development their own international brand.In fact, joining WTO, our garment enterprise will move gradually into the international market arena, they have to use their strength to compete with their competitors. Those China garment enterprise and people involve in garment trade who have hindsight for the world and future will eventually growth up and join the world leader.
