Sports insurance refers to the typical insurance system in the field of sports, which means the insurer bears sporting risks according to the insurance contract, after the insurance premium having been paid. The whole article is written against the background of the 2008 Olympic games. The article describes the present situation of Chinese sports insurance, and points out some problems inside, on the basis of common sports insurance theory; and then compare with the sports insurance present situation in some other countries, in order to get some beneficial inspirations; and at the end of the article the writer analyses the good opportunities and challenges in the face of Chinese sports insurance, and provides some practical provisions accordingly. In a word, the thesis is trying to make a thorough theoretical exploration aimed to the topic of Chinese sports insurance. The thesis is divided into four chapters. The first chapter is the theoretical basis of the whole article, mainly describing the concerned insurance theories in the field of sports insurance, and summing up some characteristics of sports insurance. The emphasis of the chapter is the second part, which mainly analyses the risk structure and particular insurance items of sports insurance. Because the risk structure of sports is very complicated, which includes the personal risk, the property risk, and the liability risks, the particular insurance items of sports insurance involve not only life insurance but also property insurance, and all kinds of liability insurance. And so, sports insurance can not be simply classified into life insurance or property insurance. At the end of the chapter, the writer describes the importance and functions of sports insurance. The second chapter describes the present situation of Chinese sports insurance, and points out some problems inside, and analyses the causes behind. In this chapter the writer divides the evolution of Chinese sports insurance into three stages: the first exploration stage, the second regular starting stage, and the third rapid developing stage. And thus draws the evolution of Chinese sports insurance. In the second part of the chapter the writer points out six major problems lying in Chinese sports insurance, such as: the lack of suitable sports insurance items; the lack of special sports insurance broker; the lack of human resources good at the research and development of sports insurance; the incorrect operation in the field of sports insurance and the imperfect of laws related to sports insurance; the low level of guarantee of sports insurance and weak promotion of sports insurance; frail sense of sports insurance. And the second part is the emphasis of the chapter. The third chapter concerns the international comparison of sports insurance. At the beginning of this chapter the writer introduces the outline of western sports insurance and the serving areas of western sports insurance brokers. And then the writer make examples of sports insurance in the USA, Japan, Germany, and the UK(because the four countries have long history of sports insurance and have their own style in the field of sports insurance), analysing their characteristics in details.
