Sports and insurance have close relations, for danger and sports are twins. Sports insurance is very important to sports, not only can it reduce the worry of danger and compensate the loss, but can promote the development of sports as a part of sports industry. This paper aims to provide useful references to help developing Chinese sports insurance in the light of experiences of sports insurance in USA.Sports insurance, including social insurance and commercial insurance in sports, covers areas such as sports, mass sports and physical education. On the basis of generalization of previous researches on sports insurance, this paper systematically discusses current situations of sports insurance in USA and China, with reviewing researches, interviewing specialists and seeking information on Internet. By comparison of those two, defects have been found in Chinese sports insurance, such as lack of sports insurance company, professionals and appropriate coverage, flaws in commercial competition mechanics and social insurance in sports, and poor insurance consciousness in public, etc.Through analyzing related factors to sports insurance development, suggestions have been put forward to improve sports insurance environment in China, including: (1) founding lawful system to perfect social insurance in sports; (2) making special policies to expand the amount and scale of insurance company; (3) building special sports insurance companies to enrich coverage; (4) strengthening propagation of insurance to raise public sports insurance consciousness;(5) broadening sources to set up sports insurance fund; (6) cultivating competition mechanics to train professionals in sports insurance.
