Majority Rule In Democratic Politics And The Protection Of Minorities

Majority principle is the fundamental feasibility principle in democratic politics. So it is necessary to study the majority principle rationally. Protection of minority rights is the crucial step during putting majority principie into practice. The ideal condition that the people pursue is decision by majority and protection of minority rights in perfect harmony. However, in fact, the matter becomes more complex than the ideal obviously. Although the ideal theory doesn't result in the ideal practice necessarily, it can provide some theoretical support to the construction of democratic politics in contemporary China that research on majority principle and protection of the minority rights in the democratic politics.The dissertation first analyzes the meaning of the conception of "majority" and "minority", then elaborates the development of majority principle in theory and in practice in the historic aspect. Through analyzing majority principle in depth, it can be found that the majority principle plays an indispensable role in the running of the democracy. Furthermore, after discussing about the necessity of protection of minority rights, the dissertation points out that it is essential to construct the system of majority principle and protection of minority rights in China from three respects, such as planning of constitutionalism system, political practice and cultivation of political culture.
