The telecommunication industry is a traditional natural monopoly industry, which has a great realistic and potential demand, rapid technical improvement, and a wealth of experiences on government regulation. A great change happened since the 80's of the 20th century, and a telecommunication reform which origin from England and America and aim in breaking out the monopoly spreads to the whole world. The market of world telecommunication presents out the trend of opening and competing. Most countries encourage competition in their own telecommunication market, turn the country-owned enterprises into private ones, and carry through outward liberal policy at the same time. For above, the reformation of the telecommunication industry naturally becomes the focus that pay attention toes. Especially after China joined WTO, how to reinforce the international competion ability of Chinese telecommunication enterprises by reform is a problem deserving of more research.In a short time several great changes happened to Chinese telecom industry, and in every period the reform made improvement in market structure and performance. But what else if there is some relationship between the market structure and performance of Chinese telecom industry, what is the relation, which factors make improvement in the market structure and performance, and how to make more improvement in the market performance of Chinese telecom industry?This thesis applies theory of industrial organization and institutional change to study respectively the market structure and performance. In the meantime, this thesis analyses the relationship between market structure and performance in Chinese telecom industry from both theoretical and empirical angels. At last, it draws a conclusion and some suggestions on how to improve the market performance of Chinese telecom industry.
