On Long Lombroso Criminology

The thesis can be divided into six parts. The author expounds the brief account of Lombroso's academic life and the condition of the researches about the Cesare Lombroso's criminological thought in the introductory remark. The first chapter of the main body summarizes the content of Lombroso's Criminological thought. The second chapter expounds the foundamation of his criminological theory. The third chapter discusses the Lombroso's achievement and his proper place in the Western criminological History from four aspects.The problem that this thesis has probed includes the content of the Lombroso's criminological thought, the foundamation of Lombroso's theory and his definite place or Social influence in the Western criminological History. The author considers that Lombroso makes a penetrating analysis on the criminal problem comprehensively., the content of the Lombroso's criminological thought can be divided into six parts. The six parts includes the discussion about the criminal characteristic, the insane criminal, the juvenile delinquency, the criminal gang , the cause of crime and the anticrime.The author points out that the foundamation of Lombroso's criminal theory contains, not only the August Comte's Positivism and the Darwin's Evolutionism but also the thought of the classical school of Criminology, the studies in physiognomy and phrenology, criminal Anthropology. Lombroso founds his criminal theory by absorbing these knowledge. About the comment on the Lombroso's academic position, the author thinks that Lombroso's contribution and achievement surpasses his defect and shortcoming in the criminal research.His achievement can be reflected from four aspects mainly. Firstly he studied the criminal cause deeply and put forward a systematical thought about the criminal cause. The author holds that Lombroso had changed his idea about the born criminal before he published his book, which the name called "The Criminal Man"(the second edition). He discovered that there have been lots of the criminal causes in 1878.Secondly, Lombroso founded the positive school of the criminology. The author considers that Lombroso's researches on the crime make a great social influence. He founded a positive school of criminology headed by him. Meanwhile the focus of the criminological researches had been changed from the criminal offense into the criminal man. Therefore, the new age of the study on the criminology was burned. Thirdly the Lombroso's thought arouses the scholar to take an interest in the cause of crime and advocates the development of the criminology. A lot of new subject, such as criminal psychology ^ psychoanalytic theories > Hereditary Biology , appeared. Fourthly Lombroso puts forward the anticrime-thought that is different from the classical school of criminal justice. He proposes that there has not been the will of freedom. He opposes the idea of the classical school of criminal jusiice. He makes a suggestion to reform the justice system. He holds that the different type of criminal must be treated individually. These thought has a great effections in the western justice system. In the conclusion, the author points out the significance of Lombroso's thought by combing with our social condition of the public security nowadays.
