US Armed Forces attached great importance to military logistics from the beginning of its foundation and tried its best to develop its initial logistic institution. During the following 200 years, US Armed Forces developed into the most powerful army in the world with great logistic capabilities of strategic projection, swift response, independent comprehensive and continuous supply, etc. During its development process, its military logistics institution also changed, and these changes are of great importance to the logistic success of US Armed Forces. This thesis studies the evolutionary changes of military logistics institution of US Armed Forces;tries to summaries the rules embedded in these changes in light of new institution economics theory and analytic methodology of micro-economics;explains these institution changes from the aspects of property right theory, agency theory, transaction theory and theory of institutional evolution;and establishes a framework fit to analyze the institutional evolution in the field of military logistics. With this framework, the thesis analyzes the former path and future direction of institutional evolution of American military logistics, and demonstrates that proper institutional changes can greatly enhance the efficiency of resource allocation and logistic support effects.
