Diaoyu archipelago is part of the China Continental Shelf, first discovered, named and managed by China, and integrated into China territory in Ming Dynasty. After the reform of Japan in 1869, its national power was strengthened and it embarked on the way of invading others countries quickly. In the course of the war between Japan and China in 1894—1895, Japan stole the Diaoyu archipelago. After the Second World War, American, considering China as its enemy, occupied the Diaoyu archipelago using the special condition. By the 1970's , Americian handed over the administration of Diaoyu to Japan to control the situation of the East Asia better. By then, the issue of Diaoyu archipelago became a tough problem. This essay reviews the history of the issues of Diaoyu archipelago to reveal its truth. And from the angle of history and legality, this essay defines the sacrosanctity of the Diaoyu archipelago's sovereignty and proves the absurdity of theory of so-called unoccupied land. And from the angel of resources and location, this essay discusses the strategy of Diaoyu, and puts it into the historic framework to reinstate the truth. The Diaoyu Islands waters was later regarded as "the world's best prospects for the development of oil exploration areas and an untapped one". As a result, the difficulty of solving the problem was compounded. Japan gimmicked constantly, trying to strengthen the control of the Diaoyu Islands, and intentionally forged so-called accomplished reality. Therefore, Japan stirred up the anger of the Chinese people and people of three parties of the two sides of Taiwan Strait made unremitting struggle to protect Diaoyu sovereignty. Because many parties were involved, particularly Japan's covet for the resources of East Sea, American's increasing intervention and Taiwan authority's unsteady standpoint, the Diaoyu issue is increasingly complex. Safeguarding world peace and maintaining good-neighborliness are China's important diplomatic principles, and upholding the principle and safeguarding national sovereignty are the basic premises. I attempt to address the issue of the Diaoyu archipelago, and to make independent thinking and exploration.
