Facing the rapid development of Chinese economy, the term China's Rise began to be the most frequent words when talking about China in the U.S.A in recent years. The debate on what consequences China's Rise will bring is becoming more and more heated in the U.S thinking circles and thus they are divided into two schools: the school of containment and the school of engagement. These two schools'opinion about foreign policy would nevertheless influence more or less the tendencies of the United States'future foreign policies. Therefore, it would be great significant to strengthen the study of these two schools both theoretically and practically.This thesis mainly focuses on the two schools'basic ideology and the forming foundations. The first section of the thesis analyzes the basic ideology, practical interests, and theoretical foundations of the two schools. The ideology of the containment school includes the following points: China's military threat caused by China's military modernization; the clash of civilization between China and the United States; the tragedy of great power politics between the two countries; the threat of Made in China; and the crisis of energy between the two countries, etc.. The practical interests base of the school of containment lies in the interests groups of American military industries who hold Realism as their theoretical foundation. The basic ideology of engagement school includes the following points: the security demand between the two countries; the economic and trade demands; energy demands; the potential diplomatic cooperation between the two countries. All of these will reduce the passive consequences of China's Rise. The practical interests base of the school of engagement lies in the big companies of the United States'business circles who hold the Liberalism as their theoretical foundation.Then this article predicts the future development of the two main schools.
