Since 16th century, the role played in politics of public media is becoming more and more important. American-European countries such as U.S.A. , Great Britain , France , Germany ,etc. are all regarded as the birthplace of mass media in modern times, and media's development went with the development of politics.They both interacted with each other and become inseparable. As an important role, the public media becomes the indispensable factor in the political life in modern society. Naturally, as an important activity in social life, politics becomes the focuses of numerous media .In the meantime, the politician's activity moves toward the road of attracting the attention of media's subjectively.As the one of the original place of modern public media, the fairness of Britain's media and public trust were generally respected. In order to standardize public media, Britain formulates some laws and regulations. Modern public media such as the TV ,radio broadcast, newspaper and network ,etc. occupy the extremely important position in British daily life and become the main source of obtaining political information for British masses. In modern democratic politics, the most important political issue is election. In Britain, the election held every four year greatly mobilizes the media and public's enthusiasm. The author finds out that the public media played a vital role in spreading election imformation,controling public political orientation and forecasting the election result through collecting and tiding up materials over a year.This thesis firstly defines the concept and definition of the public media in the introduction part, and further expounds the meaning and characteristic of media's society on this basis, pointing out that the modem public media have four functions of monitoring social environment, coordinating social relationships , passing culture on and offering entertainment.
