The 21st century is a century of Internet. According to statistics, 40% of the American families, 49% of its population and 90% of its agencies have internet accesses. In 2010, those numbers would rise to 90%, 85%, and 99% respectively. The result of a survey conducted by China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC) shows that there are more than 123 million so-called 'netizens'—people who use the Internet regularly—so far. And this number doubles every six months. Because of the widespread usage of computers, there will be 400 million netizens in by China 2010. And 60% of Chinese families and 85% of its agencies would access to the Internet.Along with the popularization of the Internet, the Internet economy has gradually ripened. As the result of economic activities, politics has also emerged in the cyber word in the name of cyber politics or virtual politics. Human society will come into an era of cyber politics. Being characterized as virtual, non-regional, direct, fast, equal, convenient, and low in cost, cyber politics has been playing a unique role in the world political structure. The Internet is both influencing and changing the way politics is conducted traditionally in China while presenting new challenges and opportunities to the Chinese political society. It is safe to assert that cyber politics has shown a powerful strength and unique advantage compared to traditional politics. From 1990s on, some foreign countries have already realized the advent of cyber politics and carried out researches on this field. The contemporary situation of western researches on cyber politics could be described by the following two traits. First, many works has been publicized, but few of them are about the construction of this new discipline and there is still short of systematical, theoretical, and comprehensive works. This situation shows that the research of cyber politics is still on its preliminary stage without being an independent subject. Second, the theories and methods being adopted in the study of cyber politics are wide borrowed from other disciplines. There are few new concepts and methods, resulting in a weak theoretical background. In China, the research and development of cyber politics have been restrained by the dependent and relatively slow development of the Internet and traditional stereotypes. In this sense, it is of significant importance to carry out more researches on this issue to familiarize people with the influence that the Internet has on politics, the rules that govern cyber politics, as well as to prevent the negative political situation that may set in because of the Internet. Studying cyber politics as a relatively new subject with few theoretical studies and practices of it in China, this research has been conducted through studying foreign monographs and journals while doing surveys and interviews on various Chinese social classes on the basis of knowledge concerning Internet. It expatiates the genesis of cyber politics, develops and summarizes the concept of it with research method of literature study and interview which are both widely used in political studies on the basis of relative politics theories. It analyzes the main body of cyber politics, its traits, its influence on traditional politics, and the management of cyber space. At last, the author suggests some strategies concerning the development of the Chinese cyber politics regarding the situation and problems of the contemporary situation of cyber politics in China.
