This paper focuses on the systematic researchon the handwritingverification of the imitating signature.Handwriting is a personal letter symbol system which is formedthrough writing. With the process of the informatization, personalsignature plays a more and more significant role in people's sociallife. Therefore, in most cases, the handwriting verification becomesan important part of the document examination. The handwritingverification of the imitating signature is a really difficult partin the handwriting verification. Sometimes, the signature althoughmade by the signer himself is quite different from usual because ofthe influence of some subjective and objective factors, such asparticular time, places, interests, different writing tools. If theappraiser fails to distinguish the characteristics of the imitatingsignature from the features which are normal but influenced by mentalfactors, it is probable for him to make a mistake in his conclusion. The study of handwriting identification as a science is aprominent current topic of discussion. Much of this discussioncontains nothing but clichés that have no values in practice. Thispaper attempts to shed some lights on it.This paper is made up of three parts, totally 35,000 words. The first part gives a general overview of the imitatingsignature. It concentrates on the concept and the characteristicsof the imitating signature, the comparison of features between theusual signature handwriting and the imitating signature, and themethods and standards of the handwriting verification of theimitating signature. This part analyses the characteristics of the imitatingsignature and tell us how to identify the imitating signature, whichis of much use for the document examiners in practice. What makesthis paper original is that the author gives different definitions to five kinds of imitating signatures according to their differentforming mechanism and analyses the differences among them. The second part explains the forming mechanism, features andexamination methods in details. This part experimentally doesresearches on exercising imitating signature handwritings made bythose who have the knowledge of handwriting verification and thosewho have not. By examining common traits of two groups' exercisingimitating signature handwriting in different exercising phases, andelaborating the forming mechanism of handwriting character, reasonsof changing and values of verification, this part summarizes itschanging regularity, providing reference foundation for thehandwriting verification of different kinds of exercising imitatingsignature. In the third part, the author specifies several commondifferences between the normal signature handwriting and theimitating signature. In the theoretical study of the handwritingverification, handwritings varied with conditions are often confusedwith the imitating handwritings. While in the practice, it isdifficult for the appraiser to make a conclusion because he has littleknowledge about the characteristics and the changing regularity ofthe handwritings varied with conditions. Therefore, this partanalyses the characteristics of several common handwritings variedwith conditions and makes a systematic comparison between this typeof handwriting and the imitating signature handwriting. This partendeavors to provide a practical method for the document examination.
