Military interventions have taken place frequently in most African countries since independence era. The military have become a great important role in African political stage. Military politics is one perspective of studying African politics.Because of the differences of the form and the process of independence, the foundation of African armies is basically divided into three forms. On the basis of introducing the information of African countries owing armis, the first chapter of my paper focuses on traditional militay intervention and non-traditional military intervention.The main form of traditional military intervention is militay coup. The non-traditional military intervention includes secessionism, warlordism, vigilantism, populism etc..Compared with the first chapter, the second chapter analyzes the causes of two types of military intervetion. As to the causes of traditional military intervention, I discuss it from the political factor, the economic factor, the contagion factor and so on. Also, I simply discuss the causes of non-traditional military intervention. Whatever type is the comprehensive result of politcial factors and economic factors, historical factors and modern factors, the inner factors and the outer factors, etc.The third chapter focuses on the legitimacy of military regimes and its evaluation. As to the legetimacy, I mainly use Webs thoery to analyze the legitimacy of African military regimes. Military regimes have a good many shortages, but to a certain extent, it also did some contributions to the country and the people.The fourth is the last. Basing on observing the military politics since mid-1990s, I point out the new trend of military withdrawal from politics. In the second part, I explain the new trend from the changes of international surroundings after the Cold War, the trend of world democratic politics, the attitude to the politics of African armies and so on. Meanwhile, I point out five special phenomena.
