Empirical Research On The Relationship Of Violent Crime And Income Inequality

Along with the rapid economic development and the deepening of reform and opening up, China's comprehensive national strength has increased dramatically, the people's income and standard of living has also significantly improved. However, insecurity and inequality the socio-economic life are increasingly conspicuous. The problems, such as uneven economic development, widening of the income gap, the increasingly serious social security issues, have become restricted China's economic and social development difficulties. Particularly the just-concluded 17th, the proposal of the Communist Party of China, accelerate the improvement of people's livelihood so as to focus on the social construction, promote social fairness and justice, and promote the building of a harmonious society. In the context of such a strategy, social stability and unity and harmonious development of all sectors of the community problems become even more the focus of attention.In recent years, social stability have a certain negative impact from poor-rich dividing faster, ever-widening income gap and gradually deepening level of inequality. Criminal activities are more rampant. The number of cases of all types of crime continued to increase. Particularly the continued escalation of violent crime cases seriously threat to the lives of the people and social stability and long-term stability. Clearly, the past 30 years of economic development and prosperity do not necessarily bring about social stability and harmony. So, inquiring violent crime and economic development, especially the relationship between income inequality and violent crime, and exploring the impact between the two mechanisms is an urgent need to study and solve problems.This paper systematically reviewed the study of literature at home and abroad. And on the basis, income inequality and violent crime have been defined and measured strictly and uniformly. In conjunction with China's national conditions, my paper objectively and comprehensively describes and analyzes the trends and changes of China's violent crime and income inequality in their characteristics since reforming and opening up. And it also reveal the status of the number of violent crime continuing to increase, the increasingly rampant criminal activities, the expanding income gap , and the increasingly serious degree of inequality. These lay a solid theoretical foundation and practical basis for the quantitative analysis of the relationship between income inequality and violent crimes. And Then, I select statistical indicators firstly, such as violent crime rate, the Gini coefficient, the average number of years of education, and the unemployment rate and so on, and time series analysis of data in the 1980-2005; I do an empirical research about the relationship between income inequality and violent crime, using cointegration theory secondly; for analysis results and existing problems, finally I mention several policy recommendations in order to control the income gap reasonable, reduce the number of violent crime and ensure long-term social stability.To study of the relationship between violent crime and income inequality comprehensively and scientifically, my paper points six chapters to elaborate. The structure and content of the article is as follows:Chapter 1, Introduction. Present this paper's the background of topic, purpose of the study, research ideas, and the content framework and research methods.Chapter 2, Literature Review of violent crime and income inequality. This chapter systematically reviews domestic and foreign literature about violent crime and income inequality, from the theoretical research and empirical studies.Chapter 3, Definition and measure methods about violent crime and income inequality. This chapter clearly defines the connotation and extension of violent crime and income inequality, strictly ascertain measurable indicators and measurement methods and prepare for the quantitative study follow-up to lay a solid foundation for the methodology.Chapter 4, The status of violent crime and income inequality of china. This chapter is divided into two parts, respectively on the trend of change and development characteristics of violent crime and income inequality. Carefully selecting indicators, data and research methods prepare a foundation for the next chapter on the relationship of violent crime and income inequality.Chapter 5, An Empirical Study about the relationship of violent crime and income inequality. This part is the core of the paper. According to economic theory of crime, establish theoretical model, and test the model with Granger causality test, a smooth sequence of testing and cointegration test and structure ECM. This paper studies the mutual relation of violent crime and income inequality and inquires to the impact and function of income inequality and violent crime.Chapter 6, Policy recommendations.Conclusion, Summarize the innovative and independent work in this article, as well as weaknesses, and raise the issues worthwhile in-depth study.
