The New Century, The Chinese Communist Party's Policy Toward Taiwan Study

Entering the new century,CPC,with HuJintao at the core firmly grasped the character of the time and took the tendency of development between two sides.Under severe jinternational situation,Hu lay a good foundation of Chinese core interest on Taiwan issue and continuously improved and developed the policy towards Taiwan.First is to focus on"people".The second is to make the Anti-Secession Law to contain "Tai Independence".The third is to put new meaning to the "peaceful unification".The forth is to get the military ready for the "Taiwan Independence".All outlines the basic struture of The Partys policy towards Taiwan and presents new suggestions .To settle the Taiwan issue and achieve reunification of the motherland is the basic national interest of the Chinese nation, which is also the common wish of Chinese home and abroad. Moreover,the leadership has revolved around the primary task of opposing and containing the "Taiwan Independence",stuck to the main theme of developing across-strait ties,cracked down the "Taiwan Independence"activities,enlarged the economic, cultural and personnel exchanges and formed the new situation of parties across the straits,having made new progress in settling the Taiwan issue theoretically and practically finally.Adhering to the "one China"principle is the basis of developing across-strait ties and of achieving peaceful reunification.There is only "one China" and the mainland and Taiwan belong to one China.Chinese sovereignty and territory is an integral whole and must not be partitioned.Since 1949,the fact that the mainland and taiwan belong to one China has never changed,in spite of the fact that the reunification has yet to be achieved.This is the present situation of cross-strait ties.As long as Taiwan authority explicitly accepted the "one China" principle ,dialogues and negotiations across the strait could be resumed.The "Consensus of 1992" is the prerequisite and basis of resuming the negotiations and developing ties across the strait and an important guarantee towards peace,cooperation and final reunification.Besides,the mianland reiterated that under the principle of "one china",any question could be discussed.To settle the issue of Taiwan and achieve reunification,we lay stress on the role of Taiwan people .In the process of developing across-strait ties and pushing forward peaceful reunification,the mainland has been sticking to "human oriented" spirit and explicitly expressed that the taiwan compatriot are our brothers and the important force indevloping cross-strait relations,and in containing "Taiwan Independence" activities.In whatever case,we will respect them,trust them and rely on them, and think for them ,take care of them and safeguard their legitimate rights and solve their problems,thus specifying and inplementing the guideling of laying stress on the role of taiwan people.It is the most urgent task for Chinese people across the strait to persistently oppose and contain "Taiwan Independence"splitting activities and sustain the peace and stability around the Taiwan strait .Aiming at the increasingly rampant independent activities,ChenShuibian anthority upgrade its provocative actions and the battle between "Taiwan Independence"and Anti-Taiwan Independentforces became unprecedented intense.The mainland keeps to the theme of peace and develplment ,taking a series of important steps to fight against Taiwan Independence.it enacted Anti-Secession law of promoting the principle of settling the question of Taiwan to the legal level which provided a solid legal basis for pushing forward the bilateral ties and process of reunification.The mainland government has also made military preparation,which is the most important ,practical and urgent strategic task,so as to maintain the biggest military deterrence to "Taiwan Independence" forces.Policy towards taiwan since the 20^th century has played an important role,and affected the bilateral ties between the two sides.And it is very important for the practical value to experience the policy.
