From A Media Perspective Of Their Social Identity Changes

Migrant worker,an outcome of social changes and household registration system,isaspecial group in the period of social transition of our country.At present,migrant workers are doing their jobs in all walks of life all over the cities.They have made great contributions to the construction of economy,as well as a main composition of our city lives. From being marginalized to an essential labor resources to urban construction and then "an important part of industrialist " issued by "the first document" of central government in the year 2004.Migrant workers are playing an increasingly vital role in the process of modernization and simultaneously their social identities are being transferred,these transfer mirrors a great concern paid by our Party and country and also the recognition given by the society,which conversely can motivate migrant workers' enthusiasm and accelerate the urban and rural areas coordinated development and finally to benefit the construction of building a harmonious moderately prosperous society.This article aims to discuss the identity transfer of migrant workers in our country from the perspective of media.The methodology of content analysis is applied and 541 samples relating to migrant workers are randomly chosen from People' s Daily,Southern Weekend and Da He from December 1th,2002 to December 31th,2003 and in 2006.By comparing these samples,different features are displayed from these three newspapers in different period of time.The theory of social stratification are used to analyze these differences and we can conclude that changes are being made on migrant workers' social identities.First of all,the economic status of migrant workers has been enhanced.The government are paying more attentions on migrant workers' economic treatment and exert all their powers to improve their housing conditions and living standards.What's more,the medical treatment and medical care insurance system towards migrant workers have being perfected.Secondly,the political statds of migrant workers has also been improved.They get more emphases on professional trainings and more provisions and guides of employment. Especially,migrant workers are firstly voted as the deputy to the 11th National People's Congress,getting the access to the political consultation system,which reflects the improvement of migrant workers' political status.Also,the social reputation of migrant workers is different from that of the past.That is from being discriminated,excluded to recognition and admiration.
