U.S.presidential election coverage is the important part of international news coverage of domestic media.This article reviewed the U.S.presidential election system and the basic situation of 2008 U.S.presidential election,and then all the reports about the U.S.presidential election are as the samples in the "Oriental Morning Post".Article used report theme,report tend,report attitudes,report types,news sources and other variables to count and analyze all the samples. Through further data analysis combined with depth interviews with the "People's Daily" reported the relevant comparison,found that the U.S. presidential election coverage of Oriental Morning Post had some characteristics,including panoramic presentation of electoral process,deeply holding election background,civilian perspective,pay attention to topic about Chinese,using varied report types.These characteristics fully displayed the newspaper in the report content, report forms and reporting practices of innovation.The 2008 U.S.presidential election coverage of "Oriental Morning Post" was successful,presenting that the newspaper insisted on global perspective and planning report.
