It is necessarily required to facilitate interdisciplinary research for a country to build its innovative system and develop high level research-intensive universities. Faculty in interdisciplinary research organization play a decisive role in facilitating interdisciplinary research in the situation that interdisciplinary centers are on the rise one by one. But because of the history that disciplines are separated far away from each other and the existence of conflicts between interdisciplinary centers and traditional colleges in distribution of resources and fight for human resources, conflicts between interdisciplinary organizations and colleges are on the rise and numbers of faculty who do interdisciplinary research is in short, the research on faculty hiring policy, which is the key academic system, is of great importance. The study takes three comparative successful faculty hiring policies in U.S. research-intensive universities as examples, which are joint appointment in Michigan University, Co-funded Hiring in Penn State University and Cluster Hiring in Wisconsin University Madison Campus. Their hiring process, evaluation, promotion and other measures are taken to be explored into details. Through the analysis based on Human Resources Management Theory and Human Based Theory, characteristics of these three faculty hiring policies are found, which are, First, position are set scientifically based on needs; Second, some motivation measures are adopted to stimulate faculty's passion to do interdisciplinary research on the base of human's needs.Going back to domestic practice starting with the analysis on structures of interdisciplinary research organizations, the author sums up two faculty hiring methods, which are Direct Hiring and Joint Appointment. The dilemma and difficulties of faculty in these two hiring methods are deeply explored. The author takes Fudan University as an example to explore practices such as position setting, hiring process and faculty management in the hiring policy. Difficulties that Chinese faculty confronted are exposed in their practice, such as the lack of belongings, great pressure in their promotion and etc.In the end, through international comparative analysis and comparison of faculty hiring policies in a country, it is suggested by the author to continue with implementing Direct Hiring and Joint Appointment, to adopt flexible position setting, inspire and evaluation measures, and to strengthen distributaries and elimination system by not providing too much financial support and preferential policies as before, building up channels and conducting cooperation with academic units outside the campus in the situation that interdisciplinary research organizations are successfully built and some talents are attracted to do interdisciplinary research. In this way, interdisciplinary organization in universities can be brought about its function as a talent funnel and filter for outstanding and excellent research faculty and a dynamic faculty contingent can be built in a comparative stable campus environment. Finally, interdisciplinary research organizations can not only play its role as a research organization in universities, but also make the faculty who are distributed into other academic units to take shape the good interdisciplinary research environment and facilitate interdisciplinary research in an all-round way.
