A Qualitative Study On The Causes Of Homosexuality Of College Students

According to the survey of some experts and scholars, the number of homosexualin the university is increasing which is becoming a disregarded phenomenon in theprocess of cultural development of university. What is the reason of this phenomenonand is it reasonable? How school to deal this phenomenon? All of those questions arethe problem that our school has to face. This study selected9undergraduates who isthe homosexual as study objects by using method of qualitative study to intensivelycollect the information in order to explore the forming reason of homosexual ofundergraduate from another angle. So, we can provider theoretical reference to thecultural construction of university.The dissertation is composed of five parts: the first part introduces the theoriesand study progress of homosexual and poses some questions on the basis of thesetheories. The second part is about the research design. It includes the selection ofresearch method, the selection of subjects, the collection of data and the analysis ofdata. The third part is the result of the study. The fourth part is about the discussionand analysis of the study. The fifth part is the summary and reflection of the studywhich includes defects, suggestions and expectations of the article.This study selected9undergraduates who is the homosexual as study objects byusing method of qualitative study such as involving observation, informality interviewand semi-structured interview to intensively collect the information. This paper usesthe ideas and methods of grounded theory coding by QSR Nvivo7.0analysis software.Through carrying out opening coding for transcripts of9personal interviews, wegained17first-lever coding. Also through axial coding, we gained4second-levercoding: the individual psychological characteristics, the family environment, theschool environment and the social environment. Through the process of codingselected second-lever coding and making comparison between different concepts andcategory relationships, we defined core category as “the complex interaction betweenindividual psychological characteristics and the environment”. We got the microscopic psychological phenomenon which cannot be got fromthe quantitative study. It not only can expansion the theory about homosexual in theworld but also can provide relevant advice to the culture building of the university.
