Writing is one of the four basic language skills, which not only reflectcomprehensive language knowledge of senior high school students, but also reflecttheir language communication level. English and Chinese differ greatly in the systemof language constructions and the way of thinking, the means of expression oflanguage users, therefore for senior high school students, it is inevitably influenced bytheir knowledge and experience of their mother tongue in the process of learningEnglish. There are obvious tracks of mother tongue negative transfer in the writing,which is the main influence for improving the level of writing for the senior students.The thesis aims to study the errors in senior high school English writing from theperspective of mother tongue negative transfer.This thesis is on the basis of language transfer theory and contrastive analysistheory, combined with previous research achievement. The thesis, which is also basedon the compositions selected from Grade2students in Jiangdu Senior High school ofJiangsu Province and their questionnaires, are analyzed and classified. The thesisexplains the causes of the errors in the compositions, which further confirms thatstudents are mainly influenced by mother tongue negative transfer. The analysis foundthat the text errors are mainly reflected on the lexical, substance, syntactic and textuallevels. With a lot of examples provided, the thesis explains the causes of the errors. Inthe study, one experienced teacher did a special teaching aiming at reducing problemsin negative transfer. In the end, by comparing the texts, the results shows that thestudents in experimental countermeasures have much less problems in negativetransfer, which proves the reasonability of the countermeasures in turn. The thesisproposes some corresponding teaching suggestions and correction strategy fromseveral aspects, such as lexical, substance, syntactic and textual levels to improvetheir writing ability.
