This paper takes “Shanghai Edition” Chinese textbooks for junior high schoolstudents as objects of research. Exercise is an extremely important part of Chinesetextbooks, and it plays a crucial role in students’ accumulation of knowledge, trainingof capacity and formation of accomplishment. Besides, some philosophies of Chinesecurriculum standards and Chinese textbook preparations are penetrated in exercises.Such philosophies have great impacts on Chinese education. Therefore, design ofexercises is directly associated with effects of Chinese education. Classical Chinese isthe treasure of Chinese culture and also the carrier of long-standing culturalinheritance of Chinese nation. Leaning classical Chinese can facilitate students’ deepunderstanding of Chinese nation’s excellent traditional culture and enrich theircultural deposits. In teaching practices, however, students don’t like to learn classicalChinese, and they are even afraid of classical Chinese. It is necessary to make anin-depth research on how to assist teachers in achieving teaching objectives andimproving students’ interests and passion in learning classical Chinese throughclassical Chinese exercises.At present, there are numerous researches on classical Chinese exercises.However, there is no systematic research involved in classical Chinese exercises of“Shanghai Edition” Chinese textbooks for junior high school students. To this end, the“four-dimensional exercise analysis module” is applied into this paper for a relativelycomprehensive analysis on classical Chinese exercises of “Shanghai Edition” Chinesetextbooks for junior high school students from the following four aspects based onprevious researches on classical Chinese exercises:“exercise form”,“Chineseknowledge”,“language skill” and “comprehensive quality”. According to the analysis,classical Chinese exercises of “Shanghai Edition” Chinese textbooksfor junior high school students conform to relevant requirements in Standardsfor Chinese Curriculums in Shanghai Middle and Primary Schools, laying emphasis onthe guidance of teaching approach and learning style, the cultivation ofcomprehensive ability, thinking ability and other Chinese accomplishments, and the accumulation and understanding of languages. Certainly, classical Chinese exercisesof “Shanghai Edition” Chinese textbooks for junior high school students also havedisadvantages in some aspects, for instance, monotonous exercise form, insufficientdiversity, inadequate consideration of grade factors in exercise design, not strongguidance of exercises, and relatively disordered positions of exercises. Moreover, thispaper also proposes some recommendations to optimize “Shanghai Edition” classicalChinese exercises while pointing out relevant disadvantages so as to make somemeaningful explorations for “Shanghai Edition” authors to make furtherimprovement to the quality of textbooks and for revision and second edition of thisset of textbooks.This paper includes three parts. The introduction gives a description on relevantreasons for writing, research significance and systematic research status of Chinesetextbook exercises. The text part is mainly composed of three chapters. In the firstchapter, the “four-dimensional exercise analysis module” is used for a comprehensiveanalysis on the object of research-classical Chinese exercises of “Shanghai Edition”Chinese textbooks for junior high school students. In the second chapter, an analysisis made onto advantages and disadvantages of classical Chinese exercises of“Shanghai Edition” Chinese textbooks for junior high school students. In the thirdchapter, seven recommendations are proposed for optimization of classical Chineseexercises of “Shanghai Edition” Chinese textbooks for junior high school students. Inthe conclusion part, a summary is made for previous paragraphs.
