Vocabulary is extremely important in English language study. It is the basis for the development of every skill. The importance of vocabulary in English learning and teaching has already attracted both the domestic and international experts. The new English Curriculum Criteria set higher requirements for vocabulary teaching and learning. This essay based on the new English Curriculum Criteria and theories of learning vocabulary by Ma Guanghui,is an action research report aiming at introducing efficient teaching methods on primary middle school. While doing the action research, I follow cognizing rules and theories of vocabulary teaching and learning, use various classroom teaching models, mobilize the self-motivation to a large extend. The author attempts to find out how to teach vocabulary more scientifically and effectively in the new course environment.It’s reported that students should encounter a new vocabulary word from10to16times to learn the new word successfully. Learning a word involves learning more than just the word itself. It involves knowing its pronunciation and stress, knowing its spelling and grammatical properties, knowing its meaning, knowing how and when to use it to express the intended meaning and so on.Teachers should help students to enlarge their vocabulary in many ways. Teaching can be fun. Expanding the students’ vocabulary can enhance their creativity in one way or another.The essay includes four chapters. Chapter I is Introduction. Chapter II is Literature review which is related to theories of vocabulary and teaching methods. Chapter III is Research design, including purposes, tools and planned actions. Chapter IV is conclusions and discussions, In a word, the action research is successful.
