As a new educational product, educational games are gradually penetrated into student-live. There are many educational games, but it is a question that these games can promote learning technology, which is worth exploring research. Whether it is good or bad, educational games depends mainly on the merits of design. This paper cited AI in the design of educational games to improving educational game design from the perspective of student motivation. This paper follows the idea of design research. Firstly using interviewing to research which degree students’ favorite sports game is. Secondly, analyze and design AI opponents from the aspect of inner motivation according to Malone’s intrinsic motivation. Thirdly achieve AI opponents for the example of the lower grades of elementary school mathematics class. Finally, analyze and evaluate if its design meets the original target. The focus of this paper is to determine the competitive AI opponents design ideas based on Malone’s intrinsic motivation including three aspects.Determine the game goal according to the learning goal and game goal does not change with learner and AI opponents.AI opponent competitive reaction time is that2063ms plus Identify the stimulus time plus reaction time. The grade of AI opponents is divided by pupils’ academic hierarchy, including three levels of90%,80%,60%. Then determine the goal and the levels of AI opponents based on the specific reaction time and accuracy.Get the limited-state transition table. The default state is the state of AI opponents when learner get into the game, while the action status, props status and information exchange state are controlled by automatic system. Convert each specific state based on the current state of the learner.
