The rapid development of artificial intelligence(AI)technology has brought new opportunities and challenges to people’s study, work and life.In order to adapt to the future society,we need to prepare for a rainy day.Students need to understand artificial intelligence and how it works in advance, and use computers and AI thinking to solve problems. In this context, computational thinking(CT)emerges at the historic moment and becomes an important quality for innovative talents in the new era.Computational thinking has also become a hot issue in artificial intelligence and programming education in primary and secondary schools.Although the exploration of AI education in primary and secondary schools is in full swing in China, and many books on AI courses have been published. In general,AI education, especially the education of cultivating students’ CT,is still in the initial stage.Based on this, this study uses micro:bit development board to design AI courses based on CT training. To help students improve their CT skills gradually, the courses are divided into three stages: foundation, improvement and innovation. We used CT scale and Bebras CT questions to measure students’ CT level before and after the implementation of AI courses. Finally,it is proved that the AI course developed in this study is feasible and effective in cultivating students’ CT ability. The study has found that AI courses can improve students’ CT effectively. The results of CT scale shows that the students have improved significantly in algorithmic thinking, problem solving ability, cooperation ability and creativity. The results of Bebras CT questions show that students have good performance in the dimension of algorithmatic thinking and decomposition thinking. At the same time, the curriculum satisfaction survey shows that students have a high degree of satisfaction with learning activities, teaching organization, problem solving and cooperative learning. We designed AI courses based on the training of CT.Although it was affected by the research time and the number of equipment, there were some limitations in the implementation process. In general, after three stages of continuous learning, students’ CT has been reconstructed and improved to a certain extent. Therefore, this study still has some research significance in cultivating students’ computational thinking ability. We hope to provide practical cases for reference for primary and secondary schools to carry out AI teaching, and help improve students’ CT ability.
