Investigation And Analysis On Present Situation Of Basketball Teaching In Some Provincial Demonstrative High Schools In Xi'an

Basketball has played a very important role in sports development of a school, and basketball teaching has also been the required content stipulated by middle school sports syllabus. As for basketball teaching in high school since the implementation of the new curriculum standards, how does it adjust itself to the needs of reform, how to meet the personalities of different level of students, how to realize the educational and exercise value of basketball teaching for us and what do we choose teaching methods and content appropriately for basketball teaching are the topics discussed in my paper. In this paper, I regard basketball teachers and students from seven demonstration high schools in Shaanxi province, The High School Affiliated to Shaanxi Normal University, Xi’an Gao Xin No.1High School, The Middle School Attached to Northwestern Polytechnical University, Xi’an Tie Yi High School, the High School Affiliated To Xi’an Jiaotong University, Xi’an No.83Middle school and Xi’an Middle School of Shaanxi province, as research subjects to analyze factors affecting present situation of those seven schools through literature, questionnaires, interviews and other methods, and also provide scientific, effective and reasonable measures. The research significances are as follows:First, provide the feedback and theoretical guidance for the Physical Education teaching and basketball teaching so as to promote the development of basketball teaching in Xi’an schools.Second, provide a practical theoretical basis for reform of teaching status, some references for other similar cities as well.Third, make the study of Xi’an basketball teaching rich, and offer theoretical value to the teaching of key senior middle schools in other similar cities.Apply expert interviews, questionnaires and statistics methods to analyze the implementation of basketball teaching, teachers’faculty, and sports equipment in seven demonstration high schools of Shaanxi province. The results are:1. Factors affecting the development of demonstration high schools’basketball in Xi’an are mainly schools, teachers, and students, teaching contents, teaching methods, equipment and sports venues. 2. The professional title structure of PE teachers in demonstration high schools is quite reasonable, PE teacher’s educational background is good, more reasonable hours are arranged, and the proportion of basketball teachers is required. But female PE teachers are insufficient and they also lack of scientific consciousness.3. They focus on the traditional methods of basketball teaching and also need more range and innovation for teaching content. As for teaching objectives:objectives set by teachers do not match with those expected by students, which seriously affect the students’ motivation to learn basketball.4. Management of sports venues is short. Facilities are not repaired in time after being broken. The stadium is not open completely and not fully utilized.5. Although teachers and students are aware of the importance of the course, still, students have no sufficient consciousness of value for basketball theory.6. The condition of these demonstration high schools in Xi’an has been improved. A small number of students choose basketball according to personal interest and gender, and the traditional model is tried to be changed. In addition, a few schools set a basketball elective class, but most schools still use traditional teaching methods of grouping and teaching by different classes instead of their own interests, which bring negative influences on students’ enthusiasm.7. Education authorities and school leaders place too much emphasis on enrolment rate, ignoring the important role of basketball teaching, which leads to teachers’ negative enthusiasm and negative attitude toward basketball teaching reform.The following are strategies to the problems in the basketball teaching of demonstration high schools:1. More opportunities for education and training should be provided to PE teachers. Also, they organize teachers to learn new curriculum standards carefully so that improve teachers’ professional knowledge and work enthusiasm.2. Those demonstration high schools should set suitable teaching contents and methods based on students’ motivation to meet the needs of students’ learning.3. Repair sports equipment on time to avoid injuries during exercises.4. Focus on reforming basketball teaching content and methods, and stress its fitness and entertainment.5. Improve teachers’ innovation and teaching skills. 6. Education authorities and school leaders pay more attention to basketball teaching and basketball reform, also give some policy support.
